Large Camping Tents – Provide An Inexpensive Vacation For The Whole

Large camping tents are also referred to as family tents or all season tents. They are typically used at a
campground as opposed to a backpacking or trekking trip due to their weight. Large camping tents are much heavier
than their three-season or four-season counterparts, which tend to be more compact and therefore suitable for
carrying long distances.
In addition, most three- and four- season tents are appropriate for only two to three people, while many family
tents can sleep seven to ten adults (or even more). Large camping tents are a great way to introduce younger
children to the beauty of the great outdoors and the pleasures of camping.
Most large camping tents are shaped like either cabins or domes. They have multiple screened windows that
provide excellent ventilation while keeping bugs out. These windows also have storm flaps that zip up for rainy
days and supply added privacy.
Today’s large camping tents are water repellent, too, although many still offer an optional rain fly, which can
provide extra protection from sudden rainstorms and ultraviolet damage and discoloration from the sun. Modern large
camping tents are typically fire retardant, too.
The most common manufacturer’s material for large camping tents is cotton canvas, although there are some tents
made from nylon or polyester, too. Canvas tents are probably the most durable and long-lasting, but today’s tent
manufacturing technology has advanced to the point where virtually all the materials are high quality.
Poles on large camping tents are usually made from steel, aluminum alloy, fiberglass, or metal. All are strong
materials, although the steel poles are heavier to carry. The tents will also come with ground stakes for added
support, and some may also have guy lines.
Many of today’s large camping tents have multiple rooms. These can be used for added privacy when sleeping or to
divide the tent into a living area and a sleeping area. Doors are available on either end of the tent to get
outside, and another door also connects the two (or more) rooms.
There are many other options available in large camping tents. A detachable awning on the outside of the tent can
provide an extra shaded area. Some luxury tents even have a closet area with rings for hangers and clothesline
rings at the eaves. Storage pockets are also a helpful addition.
Floors on large camping tents have also come a long way in recent years. They are reinforced and tear-resistant
and often feature a bathtub design which minimizes seams and limits exposure to water on the ground.
Usually, the larger the tent, the more complicated it is to assemble. But again, technological advancements in
tent manufacturing have greatly improved the process.
Of course, all large camping tents come with a detailed instruction manual, but typically once the tent is put
up once, it is quite easy to disassemble and do it again. In fact, many large camping tents have a pop up design
where the tent can be set up in less than a minute.
